Coincidence or Divine Intervention?
At Bible study yesterday, I mentioned prayer for myself as I wait on this new job. I usually feel pretty calm about it, but in my mind I don't think I'd feel so peaceful if I didn't get the position. What I want to avoid is a temper tantrum. So that's what I need prayer for. When I mentioned the job, yet a fourth person mentioned the name "Veronica." In previous situations and conversations, I've been asked if I know this "Veronica", and I don't, but I'm becoming very curious about her. Apparently, she also works for the development office, but no one knows if she is connected to my particular part of the department, or if she knows any of the same employees or employers. This time, I happened to be talking to our graduate fellowship mentor or moderator. He said I should get in touch with her and maybe she could be my "in". I hesitated and said that I felt uncomfortable doing that, almost as if I was trying to control the situation or manipulate people instead of trusting God. And then he said something that reminded me exactly of my dad, he said: "no, it's called 'networking'!" Hahaha. Dad, you'd love this guy. Anyway, he convinced me that it wouldn't hurt and that it's a win-win situation for the employer (who trusts the employees to recommend trustworthy people) and for the applicant, me :) He said he'd put me in contact with her. Now the question is: "What do I say in my email?"

ReplyDeleteYour story reminds me of a well-known joke. The short version is this: Sally very much wanted to win the lottery, and she prayed every day that it would happen. Each time there was a drawing and she didn't win, it just made her pray more fervently. Finally, God spoke to her in a dream and said, "Fine, I'll let you win the lottery, but will you at least buy a ticket this time?"
ReplyDeleteTaking action is ok. As far as what to say to the lady, say something that shows a little of your personality and job-related strengths. If the job is for you, you'll get it. If it isn't, you won't. And you don't want to be doing a job that isn't for you.
Things not to say include: your weaknesses, why you might not be qualified for the job, and that you really, really want the job (so does everyone else).
If those things don't work, try using your fist.
I agree with Max's advice. There are always two parts with our walk with the LORD:
ReplyDelete* Our part? To trust His decisions while doing all we can to discover any doors for Him to open/close. Often though, He is the One who finds doors for us to test our faith.
* His part? To open/close those doors in our best interest.
We prayed again this morning for the LORD's Will to be clear in your job-hunting.
Love you. Miss you. dad
