One of the perks from working at the University store is getting free game tickets, so in the last week, we've been to three basketball games! We lost to Cornell and Brown (!!) but won against Yale by a huge margin, poor guys.
Matt really likes the games, and I do too--it's one of the few sports that I can follow thanks to a basketball fanatic Father. But I especially like to watch the fans, especially the crazy student fans. There's always the same group of (male) hooligans who, with each game, dress up differently and trash talk the other players. The first game we went to, they had painted their bare torsos black and their faces white (?), the next game they wore plaid shirts, fake mustaches and sombreros, and finally, with the third game, they looked like Mafia guys. The last game was against Brown and we should've crushed them (sorry Peter), but I think we were too cocky and didn't pull it together. Or maybe they were tired from the previous win against Yale and all the after-partying.... In any case, we took the opportunity to invite some friends--people we'd just met through a mutual friend at church. We had fun getting to know them better and we look forward to getting out more with people.
Here are a few things we saw and heard coming from the crowd:
Against Cornell:
"Safety school, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap"
Against Yale:
Sign: "Welcome New Haven Community College"
"Just like football, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap"
Against Penn: (from a previous game)
"Penn eats oatmeal, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap" (they are the Quakers)
College games are fun! Three more home games this season!
P.S. Rebekah speaks franglais. For example,
