When we finally exited our tent we were greeted by a blue sky and the first rays of sunshine we had seen since leaving New York: gotta love vitamin D. Having seen many of the principal sites already in the city, we decided to take advantage of the Metro System and briefly step foot in various neighborhoods in the city. First up: l’île Ste-Hélène. On this most pristine of places, a testament to the beauty of God’s creation, the Canadians erected a casino and a multi-roller-coastered theme park, vestiges of the 1967 world expo. After walking through the Island, which was bigger than we expected, we decided to seek refuge in the metro.
Our next stop was the museum Pointe-à-Callière, a tourist attraction in the midst of an identity crisis, and as a result allowing us to learn about pirates, the history of Montreal, in addition to seeing the city from the vantage point of the building’s top floor. Hordes of local elementary school students swarmed through the exhibits with us, getting screamed at by the chaperons in French. But after walking through the archeological dig of the old city and standing in the unearthed remains of the old sewer, it was time to go. (cameras not allowed, so very few pictures)
With only a few hours left of our trip to Montreal, we quickly went to see Little Italy. It was a cute neighborhood, but apart from a few restaurants owned by men named Giovanni, and women with a little extra fuzz on their upper lip, there wasn’t a lot to see.
The day ended fittingly with a final Poutine (extra grease please) and a much-needed dessert: flamm aux pommes et vanille avec de la crème glacée, and for Rebekah flamm aux bananes et au chocolat. We sat on a balcony and watched the crowds pass by, sporting fashions one only sees in cities: the girl with no pants and a fedora being our favorite.
Final point score: 7 to 3 Rebekah wins!

Yay! 7 to 3... quit while you're ahead ;)
