Next, back in the car toward the mountains. Again, this trip was full of “oohhhs” and “aaaahhhs” and “look look looks!!” (mostly from the driver’s seat: Rebekah) The roads were so small and windy that we couldn’t pull over for pictures. The weather was gorgeous and the sun was shining off each lake as we passed it. The Adirondacks remind me of Switzerland because it’s all mountains and lakes and little cabins. So, so beautiful.
We finally got to our lake: Putnam Lake. We set up our new tent (orange, unfortunately) and went for a walk. Again, perfect weather and not too many bugs. Matthew made a great fire that lasted until dark and we roasted hotdogs. No s’mores for us this trip—we simply didn’t want to mess with the mess. We did have Nutella though, so that made up for it (sort of).
Two campsites down the road were young revelers with radio music from what sounded like the radio chart’s top 100 lame songs. It was awful sounding from a cranked up radio, so a lot of it was cracking and buzzing. It’s funny how some people go camping just to have their world follow them: iPods, computers, cell phones, radios, RV TVs, etc… As for us, we prefer listening to the sound of nature, eating camp food, being “unavailable” from email/Facebook/phone, hugging a tree, and getting a little grungy (but not too grungy…). So, our neighbors were a little annoying, but quieted down eventually. Little did we know we’d have more trouble with neighbors around the corner…

Yay for Christmas knickknacks !!!
