Every year, our school has a big fundraiser organized by the Parents Association. They decorate the whole gym according to the theme, put on a fabulous catered dinner, and persuade guests (via an open bar) to bid on items all night. This year, the theme is "Blue and Gold and Green". The first two are our school colors, the third is our Headmaster's last name: he's retiring this year. Coincidentally, blue and yellow make the color green, and green also stands for all kinds of environmental issues.
Since we're going to the auction Saturday (free fabulous birthday dinner--and desserts--on my birthday), and hoping to win raffle this time, I thought I'd contribute something to the auction. Teachers sometime auction off SAT prep hours, baked goods, or exam treats. Since I can always find an excuse to do a craft, I thought I'd try something new... something I've been seeing a lot of recently online and in magazines: repurposing items!
So here it is! Start with trays and candle stick holders and glasses from a local thrift store.... for just a few dollars. Stink up your house with a salt-vinegar mix to clean the nasty green-black stains off of the copper tray.... ick!
Spray paint everything pretty colors, then glue the glasses to the candlestick holders... and voila!
Or toiletries...
Or anything else you can think of!For my second donation, I decided to spray paint some cans and make them into an herb garden.
Basil, rosemary and sage.
Everything smelled so nice in our kitchen, I almost didn't want to give them up... I will just have to bid on them myself :)

YOU are amazing!! I want all of it!! XXOO Mom
