Well, class and parents' day went fine. The cookout was fun and they served ice cream!! Like real ice-cream-on-a-bar-ice-cream!!
At the boathouse, I set up my chair and got reading my Agatha Christie book, half reading, half watching the kids rig the boats and get them ready for the race. The coach (colleague of mine) wondered if I wanted to come out on the launch with him (a motorized boat) to see the race up close! He didn't have to ask twice--how exciting! The other coach had offered way back in the beginning, but never followed through. I let it go because half of the time April was just so-so weather wise, and the other half of the time I worked in the office. But yesterday was a perfect day to be on the lake. We talked crew the whole time and I learned quite a bit about the sport that I had been wondering about for some time. In the end, the varsity girls and boys lost their races, as did the novice boys. The novice girls won though!
Immediately after we came back to campus, I changed and Matt and I went to the auction. That too was fun and the food was fabulous. We didn't win the auction and someone outbid us on a cute candy dish. We watched our items. No one bid on the repurposed candlesticks (bummer!) BUT the herb garden sold for $50!! Glad to make some money for the school.
During and after the event, I was thinking of all the donations I could have put together. That's the thing: once you see what other people donate, you think of better ideas. For example, there are always signed framed pictures of famous people: One Direction, Adele, Johnny Depp, and Whitney Houston. (Last year, we saw signed pictures of Taylor Swift and Twilight (movie cast)!) So, I thought to myself "Why didn't I auction off exam treats (homemade crepes, eclairs, and cream puffs)??" I think that would have been pretty popular... There's always next year!
