My cheeks hurt from smiling!

Tonight, I was one of three judges for a Mr. Universe competition, except that it was with our guys at our school. There were several events: formal wear, swim wear, talent and question. The senior class sponsored the event and every 50 cent vote from the public for a candidate was to raise money for the prom. We sat on stage and raised numbers 1 through 10 for each contestant, then had to explain our vote. The guys didn't strut enough on stage, so they were on and off and it was go time... We all sort of winged it with our comments and tried our best to be witty.

Except at one point, between contestants in the talent part of the show, someone yelled "stop the show". Everyone turned around and up comes Matt. He grabs the microphone from the MC, tells the crowd that he has something weighing on his heart that he has to deal with, even if they didn't know who he was. He walks towards me, gets down on one knee--at this point, I say into my mic: OMG. Someone had better be recording this on their iPhone! He starts telling me all kinds of romantic and silly things together (lines he borrowed from one of the contestant's poems, his talent). Then, he asks me to PROM!!!!!!

The crowd swooned and I gave him a 10 and we hugged and everyone clapped. I was red as a tomato I'm sure.

The senior class invites only 3 teachers and their dates to the prom. Since it's a class decision, it's really special. When I got the invite from the class last week, my dorm prefect said that I had to have a date. Had to. They googled him and wrote to him saying that I needed a date!

Prom is May 23rd and the theme is Casino Royal. I'm glad I can go with MY Mr. Universe!!

But that's great the kids chose YOU to be one of the 3 teachers! I SO wish I could have seen it! Mr.Universe indeed....he sure has his mother-in-law's vote!! Way to go, Matt!

  2. HOW SWEET! This whole scenario kind of reminds me of BFA (minus the prom). Also? I'm weirdly jealous that you're going to prom. And how flattering that your students wanted you to be a part of Prom! I bet you two lovebirds are now the IT couple of the whole school :)
