It's been a long day. I've been up ealier than I have in months, and I'm finally home from work at 8pm. My teacher shoes have ripped open the back of both ankles, so that's a bummer.
I got to the school with all the other school traffic (oops) AND with all of the visitors. Apparently, today was one of two days of prospective students, so there was NO parking. I circled the area twice, and finally pleaded to the security guard saying "I'm interviewing!! I have to teach in 5 minutes!" So I created my spot, half on the grass. Oh well.
My lesson went well. I had a lovely group of 11 students (all girls, one lucky boy) and they were great. All my transitions, my French, my activities worked out. The only thing that went wrong was that I went over my time limit by 20 minutes. There are worse problems.
After my lesson, I spoke with the Spanish teacher who was the head of curriculum. Then with the department chair, who had birds and gerbils in cages in his classroom, and a wall FULL (to the top!!) of empty boxes of cookies: the kind whose shelf-life is 1,000 years at the checkout counter. It was impressive, but then again, he was an impressive man. Next, I spoke with the principal of the school. Here's what I learned: Because it's a boarding school, there are normally one million hours required of you beyond the classroom, ranging from cafeteria duty to coaching to dorm duty. But because they're short on housing (and other reasons), they're calling my position a "day school teacher". Which means: NO DUTIES except for teaching, meetings and normal after-school help. This was a huge relief to me because I thought the extra stuff would kill me on top of the 6 day school week. The pay and benefits would be great of course.
So, there is one other candidate who will come in Saturday, and I should hear back by the end of next week!
Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement!
