Please don't pick the most expensive one

I'd like for ya'll to take a vote. I'm planning on making some seat cushions for our dining room chairs and I can't decide which of the following fabric I'd like to use. Part of me only wants to choose out of the yellow patterns, but then again, I might feel differently after I paint two of the four walls yellow. Remember the wall hanging.

Remember also that our couch and rug are blue.

I just found this in a store--and it's what I'm trying to duplicate without spending $68 on each cushion.

  2. True story from research about decision making: You'll be the happiest if you 'go with your gut' and don't think through your decision. If you try and rationalize, chances are you won't be as happy in the long run. TRUE STORY.

Pretend you don't have to explain your decision to anyone (not even yourself). You don't have to think about what it will match. You don't have to think about why you are choosing it. Which one do you pick?

    Incidentally, I also like #3.

Incidentally again. If the first strategy didn't work, try pitting the choices against each other two at a time. This strategy works very well. It goes like this:

Look at #1 and #2. Which one do you like better? Keep the one you like and ditch the one you don't. Now look at the one you kept and pit it against #3. Which one do you like better? Keep the one you like and ditch the one you don't. Pit the one that's still standing against #4. Keep pitting and ditching until you only have 1 left, and that's the one you go with.

This is how we bought our house. It's a really useful strategy.

  3. I am only going to confuse you, I think. I think going yellow is the best as it would be too much blue with the other furniture. And the yellow will tie in the walls. But what might be nice is to do reversible cushions with one color/print one side and another color/print on the back. It's not that much more work. But if you go that way, the extra time would go into a border or piping on the edges in a solid color. Then you'd have to decide what your piping color will be!! Have fun, Mom

  4. First question - do you sew? Pillow corners can be really tough.

Second thought - yellow is a warm color and blue a cool one. Yellow will dominate because it is warm, so if your walls are yellow and they are the biggest part of the house, decorating-wise, the other stuff won't really matter as much unless you choose a blue that is really bold. Things will still seem very yellow.

Third thought - ask yourself, what do you like about the pillows. That may help you make your decision. Try to find similar pillows in different colors. Do you like the style? the piping? the color? the type of fabric? the photograph? the picture on the fabric (the way it is cut)? Answering those questions will help you really decide what you like and make a pillow that is perfect for you.

  5. if it isn't too late, i vote #6. i think it will be a nice balance to the blue couch and rug but not too overpowering.
