We had a great weekend back in Matt's hometown. The drive there felt like it would never end, particularly after 10pm, then 11pm, then 12am... But we made it, safe and groggy. It was wonderful to see family and to be back in NY. We loved every minute of it, even though it was a quick visit. A strange and sudden storm came upon us Saturday evening and took away our power, but with Fred's generator we were all OK, including the ice cream :)
I had never been to a sunrise service before (shame on me for choosing sleep), and I would definately go again. I think it would be cooler to go even earlier than 7am and to have the service outside.
We had to hit the road pretty soon after church, and it was uneventful and unproductive, except for Matt who was studying. I was alone with my thoughts--mostly centered around becoming a teacher again and what new ideas I could come up with for my classroom lessons, management, decorations, etc... We found a coin purse in the car and soon realized that it was my parents' toll change. Thankfully we didn't have any tolls to pay, but we did get a Wendy's chocolate frosty. Thanks Dad! :)
I tried playing the radio really softly, so as not to bother Matt's concentration but I kept having to turn up the volume little by little. For the life of me, I could not hear what I was listening to, but Matt always could. I thought I was going deaf. I blamed the speaker for being broken until Matt figured out that the radio was set to play only on his side. No wonder I couldn't hear anything!! So I got my hearing back and when the Backstreet Boys came on, we sang and danced (with our arms and torso) as loud as possible. Matthew was very convincing.
We stopped at the outlet mall to get shoes for me, and not Matthew. I was looking for good walking sneakers for weekends, camping, exercising, and for all the times I wouldn't wear sandals or boots or teacher shoes. Here are my new Reeboks. They are quite bright right now because they are so clean and new. I wish I could wear them at work, but only brown, tan or black shoes are allowed.
I'm taking it easy this morning because I have a long week ahead of me and so does Matthew with all of his classwork and reading material.
Today I have the late shift. In the meantime, I'm making snacks for Intervarsity, doing laundry and catching up on emails.
Tomorrow I have the morning shift and Intervarsity at night.
Wednesday is my day off (82 degrees) and is filling up with errands: grocery shopping, baking, planting lettuce (YAY!) and my first book club meeting. Yes, Mom and Sarah, keep breathing. The book is called "The Invisible Mountain" by Carolina de Robertis and I finished it waaaayyyy early. Matt predicted this and asked to see my notes. "NOTES?!?" I panicked. He explained, "yeah, so you remember the parts you enjoyed and those you didn't and those you wanted to bring up with the group." Well, take it from a reading expert. Now I know for next time.
Thursday is another morning shift with Bible study at night.
Friday is the day I should find out whether or not I got the teaching job.
Then I work the weekend but can lay low in the evenings.
That's it for us. Have a great week yourselves!

Glad to know you got back safe and sound and full of ice cream!!! 82 degrees!! Good grief! We get all excited when we finally hit 60, even if only briefly! You never grew up with sunrise services here. Don't know why the French church doesn't do that. I think it great! Maybe we can talk Wed.? (our evening) We'll be gone most of the day. Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteI went to a real sunrise service once. It was to take place on the golf course when I lived in AZ. Unfortunately, the people planning the event didn't account for the automatic sprinklers that ended the service. :o)
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful seeing you. Your little buddy really misses you again.
I would pay money to see Matthew rocking out to the Backstreet Boys!!
ReplyDeleteAnd when I read the part about you and the book club, I almost spit out my tea! (Good for you! It was always something I wanted to do...)
