Today was our last hurrah before Matt's classes resume on Monday and I work the entire weekend. Even though the high was only 25 degrees with strong winds, we decided a day in Philadelphia, learning about our nation's history, would be a great date. And it was! Even with frozen skin and stiff knees (from the terrible temps).
We started at the Federal Reserve Bank, learned all about money and banking from their earliest days, and left with a bag of shredded dollars. :) No pictures inside were allowed.

Next, we stopped at the U.S. Mint. We saw how they made coins. We did not leave with a bag of coins though. :( Still no pictures allowed. WHY?!?

The first bank.

We didn't go into the Constitution Center. Maybe another time.

We did go to Benjamin Franklin's museum and admired all that he invented and played a part in. He created an armonica--one just like we saw last summer at the Corning museum of glass:
Benjamin Franklin's grave. Matt's hero.

Independence Hall! We'll go inside another time.

Liberty Bell!

Penn's landing. (Why did we walk towards a windier place?)

Betsy Ross' house.

We ended the day at a used book store and came home with a heavy bag of them. What a great day!

Sounds like it was a fun COLD day!! Too bad they didn't give you a bag of coins at the mint!! You are brave to have faced the cold. Is it because of the cold that the big ole bell cracked?? Praying for Matt's new semester and your work! Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteYou didn't even get a free mint at the U.S Mint? What a rip-off!
