Ok, I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but let's just say I found my sharpener.
I'd been frustrated with my cloth diapering system since we first tried it out in early January. I knew there were different kinds of diapers, and I thought I knew what I owned. My sister-in-law Kara gave me lots and then I got several more free at a grad student giveaway. Before Kent came along, I separated the bigger looking ones from the smaller, which left me with 4 to use right away. I figure I'd do a small load daily. My other sister-in-law Corrie had taught me how to use a prefold and a cover, which is what she had.
Kent was always wet and stinking of pee. He wet the prefold, and then that would wet the cover! I didn't understand why these covers had soft lining in them. I pushed through until I was basically using my one and only favorite cover and when it got really nasty, I just ended up using disposables for part of the day. I did a lot of research online, figuring I needed to buy more of my favorite cover (and more prefolds) until I realized that 3 of my 4 diapers were pocket diapers: NOT meant to be reused! DUH!!! So the pocket get stuffed with an insert and once Kent did his business, that was it--into the hamper. I was putting prefolds in them!!
Lesson learned: use diapers as they are intended.
Another thing I realized during my research was that my Fuzzibunz have adjustable thigh openings and back openings! The button and elastic were hiding under the seams! So they can be used now. I was about to buy some more diapers online when I realized that I had 5 more just waiting to be used!
Here's my new stash (the blue one by his feet is my favorite cover).
The only thing with cloth diapers is that it requires bigger clothes and stretches out onesies.

Glad you got that figured out! Have you heard of onesie extenders? I think you can get them on etsy. You basically snap them on and they make the onesie a little longer. Maybe that would help (?)
ReplyDeleteAs I never used cloth, it's all Greek to me! Glad you're getting the hang of it! XXOO Nana
