2 months already?!?

My baby is 2 months old today (in weeks, not by the calendar date).

Next week, he'll get his shots and I'll give you an update on his stats. He still seems skinny to me: his little arms, his ribs and back, his neck. All I can tell is that he's growing lengthwise out of too many cute jammies and onesies. Also, his head must be growing because his hats don't stay on--they pop off!!

Everyone says he looks like his Daddy. They comment on how big his eyes and his hands are.

What he loves:
Kent still loves his Daddy's guitar playing. He loves to watch us, which is great and not so great: we have to hide from his view when he's falling asleep. Sometimes he knows we're behind him and he strains his head back to search for us. Little stinker. Speaking of which, Kent stinks more and more as the days go by before his next BM (at this rate: 2x/week). Seriously, his gas could kill an elephant.

What he doesn't like:
If you scratch his back while he's nursing, he will arch it and make a noise, almost to say "Come on! Cut it out!!"

Being wet in his cloth diapers. The insert in the diaper makes the shell wet, which makes his skin damp and cold. It seems like you have to change his diaper (and clothes!) every 90 minutes or so. I'm still on the fence with cloth diapering.
Kent also doesn't like how big his butt looks in them:
But he's so cute!

What's new:
Smiling. Definitely smiling more and more. It's simply the best. I can't wait until he starts giggling!

When he's upset or crying, and then I go get him, our eyes lock and he calms down immediately. It melts me that he knows his Mama.

If I interrupt his feeding to burp him, he lets out this terrible whine--you'd think the world was coming to an end!! I think this is foreshadowing toddlerhood....

Kent has made several outings this month: to the library, to basketball games, to the cafeteria, around campus, to Trader Joe's, to Bible study and to different parties. A friend came back to campus, so we all got together in another friend's house. This was his outfit:
See that arm? Kent is waiting for the perfect lady. Until Mommy runs her off.

That night, an alumni was in the dorm and thought Kent was so cute, so he took a snapchat and sent it to my other former students who just melted from his cuteness. No surprise there since he is the most good looking baby ever. First social media presence.

On Sunday night, I went into Kent's room to feed him at the 4-4:30 am time. He had turned a perfect 90 degrees! Uh oh!!

Our routine looks something like this:
Wake up, change diaper and suck out snot from his little nose.
I also have to wash his face. Next time, he should really ask for a napkin.
Start feeding Kent while we wait for Dad to finally wake up (ugh! grad students!). Watch an episode (or 2) of either Seinfeld or Monk and alternate who holds Kent while the other gets his/her breakfast and then gets dressed. He takes a short 30-40 minute nap after his first feeding, then about 1.5-2 hour nap after his second feeding (which puts us to late morning or noon). Kent will sometimes fight another nap after his 3rd feeding, or sometimes it will be an hour long. And then I try to get him to nap once more in the mid afternoon, however long that might be. We start bedtime routine around 7:45 or 8 pm and then he sleeps in his crib. (Naps have been in the kitchen by the stove fan.) In his crib, he doesn't usually cry himself to sleep. More often, he lays there, looking around at the shadows and sucking on his pacifier. That's when Matt and I pull out the scrabble board and eat french fries. We'll occasionally look in on him, 10 or 15 minutes later, and he's still sometimes wide awake, studying something in his room. We're never really sure what time he finally falls asleep. He'll wake up around 4 am, then again at 7 and we start all over.

Can't wait to see what this next month will bring!

  1. Okay, I have so many things to say about this darling post! But first, Max has to say that you MUST go by the calendar date. It is really bothering his little science brain :).

I think Kent is actually chunking out, especially around the face! Can't wait to hear the stats at his next check up.

He is ADORABLE in his huge cloth diapers and in his bowtie onesie. Seriously almost broke the computer screen with his cuteness!!!

Lastly, I find it ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE that Kent just drifts off to sleep at night without crying. WHAT??!?!!? I would never ever wish crying on you, but seriously, how is that fair?? I hope you know how LUCKY you got with your baby :)

Also, great video! Thanks for posting :)

  2. He is the poster child for CUTE!!! His face is changing just a bit, it seems. You are definitely spoiled by an "easy" baby...wow! Amazing that he can be calm enough to fall asleep on his own! Yep, his butt looks big, oh well! Big hugs and slobbery kisses from Nana!
