We might as well live in a van down by the school river. It would be an easy solution to our housing problem.
Last week, right around my birthday,we considered buying a condo seeing as the rental prices are so high. We spent a few days trying to get advice from colleagues, parents, realtors... It was nuts. The more we considered it, the bigger our list of cons grew. On Monday, we dropped the idea altogether, and I made phone calls to all of the apartment complexes near my school.
The closest complex (1 mile away) had just one opening, so Matt and I visited right after school. He happened to be there with me because he had been proctoring AP exams all day. The complex is small (50 units) so we feel that we wouldn't get lost in the crowd. The manager, Bob, is straight out of Jersey: the chest hair coming out of his unbuttoned shirt, the gold chain around his neck, and the hair. Oh, the hair. Think 60s greaser and pompadour ducktail. Wow. The opening is a grungy 1BR that could use several more windows and natural light. It's smaller than our place now. How can that be? We think we could make it work, but we'll need to find some storage solutions.
Monday and Tuesday, we considered that apartment with all of the other leads we'd been getting from my mass faculty-staff email plea for help. I think we had about 5 or 6 and by Wednesday, we felt like the grungy apartment was going to be the best, so we completed the application. Luckily, we can put a hold on it first, for 30 days, just in case we find something better.
Wednesday, my principal came over to our lunch table and said, "Well, Rebekah, things are shaking out differently than we expected. We might have housing for you." My heart sank. After all of that hard work? All of that mental stress? So, my principal assured me that it's still unlikely, and that we should still move forward with the apartment.
So now, everything is in God's hands. I have no idea what will happen, but my expectations are low. I'm already trying to think about how to arrange our furniture, and what color to paint he walls....

If anyone can come up with creative storage solutions it is you!
