Hope?

Strange day today:
My students took their French AP test from noon to 3:00 or 3:30. I think I was more nervous than them since this is the new test format (content and tasks and goals and rubrics), and we're all guinea pigs. I feel as though this is as much of an evaluation of them as it is for me and what I tried to do with/for them this year. By July, we'll know if the national average is higher than 2.78.
Ironically (?), today was also France's inauguration of the new president and The First Girlfriend. France is still trying to figure out what her role should be.... What's cool is that I'll show the news report on it in class for my AP students (after they whine and complain about how hard the test was).

My other students brains have melted out of their ears because they aren't doing so hot. I created the easiest (and shortest) quiz on 3 simple structures today for a grade booster at the end of the term. As they were handing them in, their errors were jumping off the page and slapping me in the face. I even pushed the papers back their way saying "did you all remember to match the tenses from the active to the passive voice?" in that I'm-giving-you-a-hint-so-take-it-already voice. Oh well.

I emailed my vice-principal about the possibility of a French 3 honors class next year, and she responded that it depended on numbers and we'll know in July. She included another sentence (unprompted) about housing: On another note, please know we are still thinking of you as we think about housing for next year.  I think I gasped immediately after that line. Last week, my principal Jon had said "things are shaking out differently than we thought" and that they might be able to give us housing. Now, from the other administrator.... Why would they say it twice? What are they up to? Do I dare hope? Live in a space bigger than 670 sq feet?

But, but, but, who will take care of little Lilah??
