I had two surprises yesterday: one was an email from a dear former student. He told me all about his adventures in college and how well he was adjusting. He also praised and thanked me for my work and compassion as a teacher, which totally melted my heart and gave me a grin that still hasn't faded. It was simply so nice of him to take the time out of his busy college-life to give me an update and say such lovely things. It was perfect timing after the discouragement I felt about my interview and my lingering "I should'ves" bouncing around in my head. I love this kid.
My second surprise yesterday came from Matt who got us tickets to the University Orchestra. It was held in a beautiful auditorium on campus, one that I've always wanted to see, and we heard Ravel's Tzigane, and Piano Concerto in G, and Copland's Clarinet Concerto. All of the soloists were winners of a recent competition and boy were they good. We had a great view from the balcony where we could see every instrument being played. The concert was beautiful and the talent admirable.
We also took advantage of the warm weather and bright sunshine to get some Halo ice cream. Not in town, but at the source: the Halo Dairy Farm. We bought 6 pints (on sale) and one is gone, and it wasn't my flavor. Chris and Corrie, you'd better hurry on over here or there won't be any left!!
