How do you teach again?

I just got an email from the dean of the school with the job opening. It was only one line long and to the point: could I teach a portion of a class next week, and meet other members of the faculty.

Yes, I replied, squeezed in right before my mid shift on Thursday morning. I asked her what level, how long, what kind of lesson, if there'd be real students to work with, etc. Hopefully she'll get back to me so that I can start planning. She'd better give me ample time because my only day off is Sunday, and then the following Saturday!! I guess I'll have to be brainstorming and planning while I fold.

I'm very nervous. What should I pick as a lesson? Grammar? Vocab? Writing? Speaking? What's a lesson plan again? Where are my lesson plans that I had to write out for my observations? Oh shoot. In the trash. Bummer.

  2. Teaching is like riding a bike. It will all come back to you!

My advice (not that I know how to teach French), would be to do a grammar lesson, practice the skill by doing some sort of written activity, then practice the skill orally with conversation partners.

Then get all the students to start chanting: "Hire her! Hire her! Hire her!"

  4. Do something creative, something with a great visual, like creating a mural for farm vocabulary words, etc. Be prepared to do major classroom management. I've heard stories....
