Kent has a cough, just like his cousin Henry, but so far, it sounds shallow even though you can feel a little rattle in his chest when he breathes. He doesn't wake up in the night to be rocked back to sleep anymore, but he does wake himself up coughing. Poor guy.
We caught the mouse, thank God. There has been no evidence of more mice, though the second trap is still there. It's a serious struggle to clothe or diaper Kent. He fights me like I'm going to kill him. This is especially hard when he's got a poopy butt. He hasn't gone on the toilet for maybe 10 days. This afternoon, once he was finally down for a nap, I went to make lentil stew only to find maggots in my 1 week old bag of potatoes. No, it's not hot here anymore, so I really don't understand why they went bad so quickly. Farmer's market's produce also went bad on me earlier this week, so maybe we'll just eat popcorn and cookies from now on. Discouraged.
He also has hives. WHY IS THIS ALL HAPPENING TO ME?!?!?! The doctor isn't / can't be helpful because hives are triggered by any number of things and even allergy testing isn't conclusive. Plus, they typically don't do it on babies so young. So the doc is just as clueless as me. I have to just be observant. Do you see anything that I'm missing?
First break out: Sept 7th.
I noticed it after Kent took an outdoor post lunch splash in his tub. It was hot and we did this a couple of times a week when we first moved here because of the high humidity. That evening, we gave him a bath before bed, and that's when it appeared - all over his cheeks, where he sits. The post-lunch bath had been outside all afternoon and I forgot to dump the water out. I thought, whups! maybe there was some residue in the tub. It went away after 2 days.
Second break out: Forget the date, but sometime during Matt's first week of class: Sept 14th and on.
I noticed it after I got Kent to sit on the toilet and try to poop. He was calm about sitting there, so I was hopeful he would go. Nope. Just played. Whatever. The hive-like raised white bumps were exactly where he had sat, so I thought: maybe it's a product in the bathroom? Maybe a cleaning agent?
Third breakout: yesterday - started first half of the day
It was rather cold, so he was in a long sleeve and pants most of the day. I changed him on the floor in the bathroom, and another time on the floor on the carpet and I started noticing raised bumps all over his body: first on his arms and legs, then by the end of the day: on his face, back of his neck, behind ears, and on his lower back. Nothing on his torso. By the way, I haven't been putting any creams on him, nor new soap, nor new detergent, nor new unwashed clothes, nor any meds (he doesn't need acetaminophen anymore). It's everywhere and separate - like someone poked him here and there with a red marker.
Forth breakout: today
At breakfast, he had oatmeal with applesauce, something he's had before. I spoon fed him.
At lunch, I made him some noodles with sauce and peas.
AAAHHHHHHH A MOUSE JUST RAN BY MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness. I can't do this anymore. Ok, I'm on the chair. So as I was saying: he wore a bib and self fed the food. I wiped his hands and face with a clean washcloth and when I took off the bib, his wrists were swollen up again and bright white where the elastic was. His fingers were all bothered again too. Is he allergic to plastic? Elastic? Washcloths????
I just don't get it. I do wash my washcloths with diapers. I'm thinking about doing disposable diapers for a week to see if anything changes, although the hives aren't on his butt, just everywhere else.

I am so so sorry. How very frustrating. Is Kent really uncomfortable with the rash? Poor little guy. I wish I could help. Is this only happening when his skin is sweaty with the humidity? Your Uncle Willy had eczema. I sure hope it's not that. Praying lots and sending hugs, Mom
