Adult education

Matt grew up in one location, one house actually (whaa-mind blown!) which is really great in many ways, especially for the sake of his education. My upbringing was equally great, but I do have some gaps. Okay, maybe we can call them craters. Especially in the history department. (Note: I'm a very good spellor in both French and English. I can read and do math for my own purposes. And science? Well, science is hard for everybody, right?)

As an adult, I feel like I would enjoy school so much more and I would have better questions. But since I'm not allowed to re-do high school (whew!), I do more learning on field trips. Matt is like an encyclopedia, except less fat. When we visit places, I can ask all of my stupid questions without fearing a drop in my GPA. Usually he knows the answers (or he makes them up), but sometimes we learn together.

Last week, we went to Valley Forge, where George Washington encamped with his men in 1777-8. Two thousand men died from the harsh winter, disease and inadequate food and clothing. And yet, they were lucky to take up that area (high point), have enough trees to built little log houses and be safe enough from the British who had taken over Philadelphia.

Most of the learning was in an indoor exhibit, so I don't have a lot of pictures. There was a cell-phone driving tour however.
The Valley
On the inside of one of the log homes meant to house anywhere from 6 to 12 men. Not an original.
George Washington's headquarters and house. 25 people lived there including servants. How is that possible?
Statue of an important man. Okay, so I didn't take close notes.
That night we camped in PA in the second worst humidity (first place goes to a swamp in Louisiana). The site was great, but the Pennsylvanians must have stored their firewood in the lake. They must have thought that was the way to prevent fires.

*yes, I wrote "spellor" incorrectly on purpuss.

  1. Cool. Never heard of a cell phone tour! Glad you're able to fill in some of your gaps! Just remember, you know more on France than most people!! Love you, Sweetie, Mom
