Yoga!

Two nights ago we had some friends over for dinner. She was the second person to convince me that I should try yoga. She'd been practicing for years and a new studio opened up just 15 minutes away. So I signed up for a 30 day unlimited class trial. I figured summer was the best time to try new things. She and her hubby were going to a class just last night, so Matt joined me too.

We had no idea what we were doing but it was a beginner's class and the instructor knew we were newbies. He was really nice and had a soothing voice, but he wasn't all that fit for an instructor. Maybe it's the same concept for coaches and their teams. The language he used to guide us into different stretches and poses was a little ridiculous (Let your breath be light. Let your eyelids be heavy. Live your heart to the sky), but I dare not giggle at it because some people are yoga fanatics! "We're going to offer our breath as a sacrifice by making it a sound. We're going to chant 3 long oms."

Aside from that, we did the best we could and stretched as far as our hamstrings would let us. The instructor helped us and corrected our alignment, and sometimes giving us blocks to hold us up. Meanwhile, Kristin was a pretzel next to me.

At one point, while crouching, our left leg was supposed to be resting/pushing against our left tricept and then we were supposed to raise our left foot off of the ground--hard to explain here. Harder to do in real life. Obviously, there was no pressure to keep up with the group and everyone did as much as they could without hurting themselves. Listening to one's body is all part of it. So yes, Mom and Dad, I'll be careful.
