The next day we hit the road for Cape Cod. None of us had ever set foot there, so it was going to be a real adventure. The drive was long and boring and full of traffic but once we got to the Cape, the views were spectacular! We stayed two nights in a great little bed and breakfast called "A Cape Cod Ocean Manor". Martin from Ireland (complete with a full accent) was the owner; he was SO nice: bringing us extra blankets and giving us information about what to see, and even bringing up a coffee machine for my parents so they could have coffee even earlier than the breakfast time. I would totally stay there again. Here are a few pictures.
Our view from the balcony.
Mom loving the sun!
Matt sporting his striped shirt trying to look as nautical as possible.
This is Provincetown, the very northern tip of the Cape.
This was a group of tourists that had gone fishing. They're back and the fishermen were cleaning and slicing up their catch.
Loved walking around the docks.
And THEN.... I found a $20 bill floating in the water. Matt was -this- close to stripping and jumping in. But instead, he used his flip flop to guide it to him. Moments later, some fishermen helped us catch the bills (yes, by that time I saw a second $20 bill) with a big net.
Matt tried to feel remorseful for catching the cash and not trying to find its owner... but he couldn't. Look at that little grin!! With $40 in hand, we went to lunch! Oh my. The lobster bisque and the clam chowders up there were amazing!!
Belly full, we toured around Provincetown, Hyannis and Chatham.
Lighthouse in Chatham.
The next two nights we spent in Nantucket. Being big "Wings" fans, this was a huge highlight (life dream?). I successfully rode the ferry without getting sick. Dad too!
When we walked to this lighthouse, we saw lots of things. Crabs:
Swings!
Multi million dollar homes:
An old mill:
The "Old Gaol" = old jail:
Aside from the old stuff, the docks and the beach area, we ate at restaurants and bipped in and out of stores all day long. In the evenings, we relaxed: mom and I read books and Dad and Matt watched basketball or the news.
Dad was PUMPED to find this vest (yes, another) that says "Nantucket Wine Festival Staff" for $3 at a local thrift store.
Happy Belated Mother's day and early Father's day!

Looks like you guys had a BLAST! Wish we could have been there too :) (And how cool was finding $40 in the water!!)
ReplyDeleteCan't believe that we did Philly's historical district, Cape Cod, Nantucket, Jersey Shore's Cape May and Atlantic City ~ all in one week! Thank you, Matthew and Rebekah for making it all happen and giving us a needed break from our usual 60 hour/6-day work week! We have some unforgettable memories.
ReplyDeleteToday is Father's Day. I'm so thankful for our Heavenly Father ~ and the privilege of being Rebekah's father and Matt's father-in-law! XOXO dad
