Camping with cousins!

We went camping with Matt's cousin Jared and his wife Caroline at the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. It's so much fun to camp and even more fun with friends!

First, we drove to their amazing house and they cooked us a fabulous salmon meal on Jared's new grill.
Check out their awesome deck and view!
There's a beaver who lives in that pond.
The next day we drove to the National park, set up tent and went for a nice long hike. That's me in my new yoga tank top which works great for hiking too! Thanks Target clearance (rather than spending $40 + at a "camping specific store")!

 Our sweet camp site!
Matt and Jared cutting down a dead branch.
Ready to hike and hoping to see a black bear! The rangers told us there were 5 active bears, but not to lure them in... no duh!
Using my new walking sticks was SO helpful because the hike was steep-steep-steep!
We hiked to this waterfall.  Little did we know that that was only the start of it.
THIS was the waterfall. Glad we continued and found it!

Here are the "lower falls"... a little further on the hike.
We came back so sweaty and hungry! We had hot dogs, turkey burgers and even some venison that Jared's dad had hunted.
 Smores came later, naturally.

There was a crazy fog that rolled in that evening and it was really eerie and misty. At times it was hard to see even our tents. Guess that's what you get for camping at 2800+ feet!
Overall, it was a great weekend. Short and sweet and much much needed! Can't wait to go camping again

  2. Those falls look amazing! And I covet your cousin's deck and view!! Did that fog rolling in make it too cold to sleep? Guess those bears will have to wait 'til next time! Love you, Mom
