Our vacation begins!

Moving went smoothly. My father-in-law was so kind to drive nearly 8 hours to help us with the biggest items like our bed, couch and bookshelves. We made 4 trips with the van, and 4 trips with our small car. Everything fit well into the storage containers on campus. This weekend, they are changing the flooring to fake hardwood for us, and they are painting the living room, bedroom and kitchen. I can't wait to see the finished product. It'll make the size of the apartment less of a problem (in my head). I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how everything is going to fit in the new place... especially with our shelves and small furniture (the antique table on wheels and the trunk). Hoping it'll grow over this month :)

We spent Friday afternoon and Saturday visiting Matt's grandparents in upstate NY. The cows are doing well, but no new calves when we were up there. Matt milked them with his uncle Henry, then cleaned up the manure in the parlor. Cleared his nostrils! I sometimes help, but I wanted to keep Grandma Kay company. Of course when I finally made an appearance in the parlor, I got splattered--even in my bangs! Matt got some in his ear.

Apparently, there's something called army worms that don't usually come out this far north. Since it was a mild winter, they survived and have moved closer to the farm. They are very destructive and there's not much you can do to protect the land! Grandpa Gus says you can hear them coming! Crazy.

We arrived at Matt's parents house last night. They still get some of our mail, including Joann Fabric's ads. I love that they save everything for us, but those ads just made me think of my sewing machine packed away, collecting dust. I haven't sewn anything since spring break back in March! Oh how I miss it, especially since my sister's been sewing up a storm of cutesy baby items. Sewing machines and camping don't really go hand in hand. On the other hand, there are 5 more fingers (thanks Mom!). But I digress...

Everyone came to church, then we had a pizza lunch. It was great to see all of the family together, but we miss Ben and Val. My nephew Caleb has grown so much since Christmas! I can't believe he's almost one. I met my newest niece Hannah, and she enjoyed staring right back at me. She's got long dark hair and I hope she keeps it :) It should be a relaxing week full of play time, nap time and snack time.
