First, I need a sewing machine

Ever since I knit my cardigan, I've been so excited to try other clothing. The internet is so helpful in this way, especially other crafty bloggers. Since warmer weather is more common than cooler temperatures, and there's not much to knit for summer clothing unless it's a cotton shrug, my mind has been wandering to sewing.

Yes, sewing. I've only done it once to make an apron (that I still wear). I remember needing a lot of help, but something tells me it's less complicated than my foggy memories. Plus, YouTube has so many tutorials that I think I could learn mostly on my own.

I found some simple spring-summer dress patterns that I am itching to try. Take a look:

My conclusion? To have the skills of a handy man is probably what every man would like to have. Clothes making is the same for women.

  1. Choose a pattern that says, "Easy" and have a phone nearby to call someone who knows how to sew. Sewing clothing is very difficult for me because there are so many curves and tucks and things to make it look nice. Also, the fabric can be very difficult to work with. That is why I like to sew quilts - straight seams and cotton fabric. Easy. Beautiful. Artistic.

The best advice I could give is start with something easy like a flat apron, curtains, a quilt, something with straight seams. Then move to the more advanced stuff like those dresses. Either that, or go to a quilt shop, take a pattern and ask for them to help you.

Sewing is a skill that takes a lot of work and time. However, I know you can do it if you put your mind to it.

    Good luck!
