Matt found French franc coins (centimes, not 1, 5, 10 franc pieces) and when we went to buy them, the guy looked over our selection and asked, "What? You don't want any big coins? Look here! He are some big ones!" We tried to explain that we wanted the French currency, not cool looking currency, but he didn't get it because when we handed over our due amount, he threw in those extra big coins.... Ok, dude.
Later, I stumbled onto a miracle find!! Ramskins!! I've wanted these ever since I made that clafoutis dessert with raspberries. I have several French cookbooks and many of them call for this kind of baking dish. In fact, I had requested this for Christmas (sorry Mom!) but since this was such a cool find, we had to get it. Oh, and by the way, they just happened to be made in France!! In my enthusism, the vendor pretty much pounced on me and offered them at $10. "Matthew! We don't have any money!" I exclaimed. I knew we had a handful of quarters, but that was to feed the parking meters. We counted up the change from all of our pockets and came up with... drum roll please... NINE dollars! Who hoo! SOLD.

Last night, in preparation for a visit from my great friend Suzanna, I made "flan," or caramel custard. We'll taste it tonight... can't wait!
The caramel at the bottom of the ramekins.

The ramekins all filled up with their yummy deliciousness!

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! SUZIE JUST WALKED IN!!!! BYE BYE!!

YUMMMMM! I want some of that! Mom
