Tuesdays are the weekly grad student Christian fellowship meeting. Last week in our prayer group was a Haitian girl named Milla. She casually asked me and Matt where we'd lived in France. For a second, I debated in my head whether or not I should start from the beginning, or just give one city as a summary statement. To keep things simple I responded "Grenoble," and her jaw dropped! SHE had also lived there, right on Gambetta street! Then three of my front teeth dropped! (that last sentence was Matthew, who likes to insert nonesense when I step away from the computer for a moment)
Here's how the rest of the conversation went:
Milla: Where did you go to church?
Me: Rue Casimir Perier!
Milla: WHAT? ME TOO!!
Me: Oh my gosh! Do you know the Boggetto family?
Milla: YESSS!! He was our family's doctor! I know (their kids) Jonathan and Laeticia!
Me: I was in love with Jonathan when I was a kid--in fact--everybody was! And Laeticia was in the same class as my sister!
Milla: Do you know she's married and pregnant?
Me: No way! Do you know others from that church? Like Aurelien and Barbara?
Milla: YESSS!! I know them. This is crazy. I can't believe this.
Me: I can't believe it either (though this has happened to me several times before, I'm always amazed). I have pictures of them in my scrapbook at home!
And so on, and so on. I love these kinds of conversations. They totally make my day.

That is soooo amazing! Does Matt know you were in love with Jonathan? Maybe his teeth will drop out with that news!!! Mom
ReplyDeleteMatthew...I used to do that to my roommates. Unfortunately they always caught them and deleted them.
ReplyDeleteRebekah...wow! How fun to run into someone you have connections with.
