Well that last one was depressing. Let's move onto better thoughts.
Sunday was FREEZING here. Literally (Max), the outlets in our kitchen were covered in ice/frost/snow. It was -3 outside when we woke up but the wind chill made it -23.
Monday was in the 30s. Whew! Sweater weather.
Tuesday was 50. Yes, fifty. I opened up all of the windows and chased away all the germs. Today is sunny and 40s and we've had a nice time walking around outside. We didn't go to MOPS because Kent and I are still coughing.
This afternoon I look forward to an hour at the gym for a "core" class and a "tabata" class. My favorite!
Kent keeps adding new words to his vocabulary. It never ceases to amaze me. First, he was digging in a hole he found in the gym (where the door clicks shut on the floor) and I said "dirty" and he repeated his version of that, happily showing me the piece of sand/lint/dirt on his index finger. Later, I was teasing him about the smell of his feet and he repeated "stinky" after me... it sounds more like "teentee". So funny. And just today at lunch, he was looking outside and I said: "Est-ce que tu cherches le chien de Travis" (are you looking for Travis' dog?) and he said "dog!" IN ENGLISH!!! This means he totally understood my word for dog in French and he made the connection. Mind blown. I had been getting discouraged because all of his vocabulary is in English, except for "button" and "pacifier" and "blankie" (doudou), and 99% of the books we read are in English, so I was despairing a little. But there you have it.
Yesterday I made a veggie pot pie and I was really, really hoping he'd like it because A) it took forever to chop everything and put it all together and B) I love it and didn't want to prepare something different for him. Sooo, he turned up his nose again and again when I offered. Figures. I let him be and ate my serving, giving him time to process that this was IT. Then, he reached for the soup spoon that I served us with. I gave it to him, hoping maybe he'd lick it and see how good the pot pie is. Yep! He just wanted THAT spoon to eat with. Whatever, dude. He dug in and ate about half of his bowl. Today he ate it and wanted seconds! Awesome. There are so many veggies in it: mushrooms, red pepper, peas, celery and carrot and onion. Hopefully he'll remember this dish the next time I make it.

Wow! Just WOW on the dog/chien connection. I tell you, you've got a genius baby there!! Oh, and why are outlets freezing? Never heard of it. That's just weird. Help me pray for weather in the 60's in March! Hugs from Nana
ReplyDeleteIf there's one thing I love watching in my kids, it's their language development. So exciting! I'm a little jealous that you've been able to raise Kent in French too (just wasn't confident enough in my French to attempt it with my kids). Did you know that research has well documented that kids who are raised bilingually usually begin to talk a little later than their single language peers? Which makes Kent's talking all the more impressive :) Oh and your pot pie sounds delicious!
