What would Grandmas think?

The learning curve to cloth diapering was bigger than I expected. My sister-in-law showed me how to tri-fold the prefold inserts and stick them in the diaper cover, and it seemed so easy! If it worked for her four kids, why shouldn't it work for me??

Well, I was encountering leak after leak, having to change Kent's whole outfit every time! That got old fast... So I joined a Facebook group that completely changed my experience with diapers. I read post after post of the 38,901 members (+ counting!) and I've been learning more than I could possibly imagine about washing machines, detergents, ammonia, leak proofing, stay-dry microfleece and proper fit.

This group is nothing short of a cult, and unfortunately, they have sucked me right in.

I have a variety of diapers, but I now know what works for us (and what I really want to spend). My system is made up of prefolds and covers, even though I do like my two pocket Fuzzibunz. Covers can be re-used and it's important that they have double leg gussets to contain messes twice as well. Side note: I also like that many of the ones I have (and want) are made in the USA. Most of the time, they are family-run businesses and working at home mamas with mad sewing skills.

Mamas in Fluff World post a lot of pictures of their babies' Fluff Butt. I've shared several with you already, but what's one more??
Mamas also love to share pictures of their Stash:
As you can tell from that picture, no one needs that many, but the next picture is how everyone feels.
 And this too.
A lot of them are against sposies (disposable diapers), but many of them use them at night (like us for now).
They just can't help themselves. There are too many cute prints!

I'm currently waiting for my first Fluff mail = cloth diapers in the mail. I won't lie.... I might have gotten bit by the "I must have more fluff" bug. Here are the diapers I've had my eye on:

This denim one is a brand I've never heard of, but I think it's super cute.
I love this monster one!
I should have gotten this one for my nephew Andrew.
And my all-time favorite brand has this adorable argyle one.
I'd love to have this one in honor of Matt and his love of westerns.

Honestly, you can find just about any design and pattern that your little heart desires!

Cloth diapers have become a serious addiction to people--not me, of course... Clothaholics?

I have also learned that you can use so many other things for diapers and diaper covers (including polar fleece) so I went out and bought FSTs (flour sack towels) which are super trim and very absorbent too. There are tons of ways to fold them. It's crazy to think that this was how every Mama diapered her baby before disposables. I call my Grandma Minnie and she complains of those hard days: the cooking, the cleaning and all of the diapers to wash... (of course, they were way different back then) She thinks Mamas are SO lucky to have disposables now.

I don't have the heart to tell her my new cloth love!

  1. Clothaholics....I had no idea! I absolutely love the argyle one too! So preppy!!! In fact, those are all so cute I would be unhappy if my baby ever ever pooped on them! I'm curious to see your Fluff Butt purchase (modeled of course) I bet these cloth diapers are more popular in warmer climates where they are seen more often. Hugs to Kent from Nana
