Not sure...

We're not sure what's going on with little Kent these days. On Saturday and Sunday, if he wasn't sleeping or nursing, he was crying! And not just the ordinary waa, waa, waa cries, but the "cry so hard he turns purple and can't get a breath in" kind of crying. The poor little guy has been so unhappy and I can't seem to figure out why. He doesn't seem sick: no temperature, no sinus issues aside from occasional sneezing and some dried boogers in his nose. He's been sleeping on a different schedule for about a week now. I chucked the morning and afternoon nap out the window because it was NOT working. I was trying to schedule his naps when he seemed tired, but he became so overtired that he couldn't relax enough to sleep. I think he's too young to implement 2 naps a day. Instead, I went back to a routine that I had read about and that's worked for a number of my friends (and "thousands of babies" according to the author). Basically, it's the EASY schedule: Eat, Activity/play, Sleep, and You time... repeat throughout the day. The first day I started it, he slept awesome increments of 45 minutes and the whole routine was quite predictable and nice. Of course, the book says that he should be sleeping 1-1.5 hours per EASY cycle, but that's not happening. I'll take any sleep at this point.

Anyway, back to our current problem: Saturday and Sunday's morning naps were good, but in the afternoon he just cried and cried through them. I tried to get him to sleep on me (just to give him some rest!) but he cried and cried some more. Worst of all, he's woken up the past two night at 2:30 am (instead of his usual 4:30 or 5 am) and then again a couple of hours later. That's been tough. I'm totally clueless why the sudden change, but maybe it's a growth spurt??? He's almost 10.5 weeks, but his true 3 month birthday is on the 26th. Or maybe it's teething???

Let's hope today is a better day. And let's end with a happy face:

  1. I am so sorry little Kent is having a hard time. Is it the stuffy nose that is keeping him from sleeping well? Praying for wisdom as you try different things and figure him out. Definitely prefer the smiles. Give him extra snuggles for me. Love you Shao-Shen, Mom
