This weekend is going so much better than last one. Last weekend felt especially weird to be alone and have to come up with "weekend plans" to spend my time. Not that I had a whole lot of time, but still.
This weekend was a REAL weekend: no Saturday classes!!! Friday night was like a breath of fresh air. I went to my old town and had dinner with a good friend. We watched TV and caught up on life, eating Milano cookies. I stayed up way too late, but then again, my body is getting used to seeing 10:30, 11, 11:30pm these days... No worries because I slept in on Saturday and it felt great. I tried to get all of my work done in the morning and then relax in the afternoon. I walked to a greenhouse to buy an orange mum, but they only accepted cash for such small purchases, so I left empty handed. :( It was an unusually hot day, so I ended up at a cafe, ordered a milkshake (which was more like chocolate milk) and sat on their terrace reading my Agatha Christie book.
That night was my 2nd of 3 Saturday night duties, and there were only 6 girls in the dorm because most went home for the weekend. It was quiet and nice. Basically all of the international students were left, and they wanted sushi so I ordered some for our snack. Yum!!
There was a bit of stress yesterday as there were discrepencies in my list of who would be here and who would not. Some of the girls forgot to sign out, so I was not aware that they would be absent. Had I not figured that out early in the day, I would have had to call home at 11:30pm (at check in time) asking "Is your daughter home? I cannot find her." No duty person wants to do that, though it happens...
I spent the evening in my home, occastionally checking on the girls. The activity that night was Laser Tag, but so few people were on campus this weekend that it was a flop. Then, there was a terrible thunderstorm and tons of rain. Oh well. I pulled out my sewing machine and worked on some reversible totes for my advisees. It was nice.
Today, I hit snooze about 4 times. I woke up with a start, 20 minutes before I was supposed to drive to church!! I must have fallen asleep AGAIN. Easy when it's such a relaxing morning.... I rushed off and just made it. Whew. Afterwards, I had lunch with a friend who's back in town after a year away. It was nice to catch up. Now's my down time between lunch and women's group. Another beautiful sunny day here, so I started a new Agatha Christie and sat outside people watching/reading.
Sure, I've got a little work to do, but that can wait for dorm duty tonight. I'm enjoying this gorgeous sabbath and I can't wait to skype with Matthew to hear about his weekend orientation trip.
