Matt wanted me to write on this thing

But I just don't have much to say. We spent the week doing a lot of good work in the library. Some days are good and others are better. The library is starting to get old for me. So are my cucumber, cream cheese sandwhiches.

Last night, Matt and I went to Staples, then the grocery store, then Halo farm where we stocked up on 9 pints of heavenly ice cream. I'm making it last, while Matt finished one of his pints in 24 hours.

I spent the day creating files and organizing all of what I've been working on in them. Now everything is neat and in its place. Matt spent the day doing a summer cleaning of his room, where somehow the three bookshelves had emptied themselves onto the floor. All I could do was close the door, but today everything looks great! (He even lined up his shoes under the futon! hahah!)

It finally rained last weekend.

Despite the rain, the heat killed my squash plant. It's dry and crumbly. On the other hand, we picked our first harvest of green pepper. Picking the child's fist-sized vegetable made me break a sweat. Whew! Our second pepper plant, that I thought had given up on life, changed its mind. There are new sprouts of leaves nearly every day! The tomato plant is feeding the squirrel population and I now see this as an act of charity.

I can't wait to chop off my hair next week for a 'back to school' fresh look.

There is a new couple in town from Houston. We went to a free grad student BBQ together on campus and the food was terrible, but better than the "Big Dumb Rock Band" playing. I look forward to making a new friend and Lord knows I need a friend who is in my boat (wife, but not student or mother yet). I've met people in my department at my new school and a lot of them are (surprisingly) men and young men. There is only one young lady about my age, but she has a 1 year old. Why does it have to be so hard to find friends? Why must everyone move on when you feel like you've just gotten to know them?

When I'm not searching for new friends, I'm deeply engrossed in the very popular trilogy by Steig Larsson. Not for everybody, but I'm loving it.

  1. The best thing about meeting new friends is they have no idea who you are. All those embarrassing things that you did in the past they don't know about. So enjoy the new people and making new embarrassing memories. :o)
