First day of school

I was in a room full of students, all different ages, but somehow mostly boys. It was loud because everybody was talking and turned around in their seats. I was making my way around to each new student, asking their names, where they were from and what their intersts were. I took notes on a scrap piece of paper, and it was difficult to hear their answers because of all the talking.

Around and around the room I went, until I got to this one 45 year old lady with blond hair. I asked her name, then where she was from, and then she gave me the most sarcastic response: "oh! you want to know about that too, huh?" I tried to be friendly and show interest, but she kept rolling her eyes and not taking my interest as genuine. What is her problem, I asked myself. Finally, I moved on but couldn't remember if I had already approached some of the new faces. I asked the names of a few students twice, and then a little girl said: "you forgot me". Oh no!

Later, one particular boy was giving me trouble, making up names, so I shook him or shoved him or something, and he fell out of his chair and onto the ground. He threw me off balance on the way down, and I accidentally stepped on his neck! Right on his adam's apple! He yelped and screamed and cried until I moved my foot. I apologized profusely, worrying about a lawsuit. He quieted down and fell asleep as I put a blanket on him.

That marked the end of my roll call, and I wanted to start teaching something. But since roll took much longer than expected, I wasn't sure how much time I had left. I shuffled through my papers and searched frantically for a bell schedule somewhere but found none. I could tell the kids were getting really restless in their seats, and I kept thinking, I thought I had prepared something for today!

And then I woke up.
