Today we went to a Cranberry Harvest Festival. It was such a nice time to spend as a family. The weather was great and there were tons of stuff to see and do: crafts booths, live music, pony rides, face painting, all the bad-for-you-food, and tons of local delicious food, kids' crafts, cranberry harvest demonstrations, tractor rides, train rides, and even helicopter rides!! It was much much bigger than we expected and we stayed out waaaayyy past Kent's naptime, but it was so worth it and here are pictures to show:
Right at the entrance, a super cool photo op! Glad I dressed Kent in a plaid shirt :)
A bubble guy!
Perfect timing + camera angle = Kent holds a bubble!
Choo-choo!
Kent's first pony ride!! You can't see from here, but he's got some white knuckles here.
Live music with a guitar, drums and a double bass! Kent was in heaven.
Kids could make their own cranberry bog in a cup, but we really didn't want to carry the thing around the rest of the day, so we just let him scoop up gravel.
The formula was gravel, dirt, sand then the cranberry shoot. It's a great idea!
We weren't going to fork over the $50 for the helicopter ride since we figured Kent would LOVE to see them fly overhead non-stop all afternoon.
We were right!! Here, he's squealing "spinning!!"
Goofy grin. Graying bangs.
From the top of the viewing area for the wet-harvest. Super long line... but worth it. Kent had his cup of gravel to play with.
A HUGE sand dune was off in the corner, so while I waited 20-25 minutes to catch the bus back to the main festival area (we were at the bogs), Kent and Matt ran up and down this dune. There was an unbelievable amount of sand in his shoes.
Weeeeeeee!!
We got a giant bag of kettle corn and after all of that running, we gave some to Kent because we had run out of snacks. Kent loved it. It was a better choice than the deep-fried oreos and the fried dough, though maybe next year he will want to try that.
Family time.
