Play food

I've been wanting to share this for a long time, but there's been too much to catch up on after Kent's very sick week. We're on day 3 of back to normal, and it feels good. I hated seeing Kent so lifeless and low energy and just laying around not wanting to do anything. For several days, he ate virtually nothing - just 2 crackers or 2 slices of banana. Luckily, Pedialite exists, is affordable and easy to find.

While he slept so much, I got to crafting. Because he wasn't eating any food, I suppose I was thinking about food. I'd been wanting to make felt fruits, vegetables and goodies for a long time. My first attempts were back in August when I made breakfast.
I've since learned many new techniques and the proper way to hand stitch. And with such a heavy breakfast, one needs fruit, right? Here we go:

Eeeeeee!!! I had so much fun making these. I think I'm officially obsessed. Next on my list is: EVERYTHING ELSE!

Now, Kent's not exactly at the pretend play stage yet, but when he is, he'll have a whole grocery store ready for him :)

In the meantime, I've changed up his play area ever since we came back home with lots of new toys. I removed many of the baby ones, and I took away more than half of his play things so that I could rotate them. The set up is more organized and inviting, visible instead of cluttered, and perfect at his height. Nevermind the messy shelves above that he can't reach yet...
He knows his toys are much more accessible and visible there, although his favorite thing is still practicing walking:

  1. BRAVO indeed! I am sitting here with your Grandma and Kent's GREAT Grandma watching these first steps! Wonderful! Soon you won't be able to catch him!!! Your food craft is amazing, and when Sarah sees it, I bet she'll want to order some for herself! Maybe a big flannel-covered board will be next?? Can't wait to play with my little munchkin! 2. Wow, wow, wow! So much wow. The felt food is sooo amazing. It looks professional (next stop, Etsy??). Kent is going to love it, for sure! I did something very similar with the toys in our living room. It's amazing how much more they play with toys when it's not cluttered and the display is clearly accessible :). And Kent is ADORABLE practicing his walking!! He's getting so confident! Miss you guys!!
