On December 4th, Matt was home and we were catching up on our day while Kent was playing with my phone (buttons + lights!). We happened to catch him go from sitting to standing in one slow and deliberate move as he held onto nothing but my cell phone. Matt and I looked at each other, jaws dropped, then looked back at him who had lowered himself down to squatting. Then he stood and sat 5-6 times in a row - NO HANDS!! I couldn't get a video without the use of his hands, but you can see that the new skill really wore him out :)

New toys
Kent is hardly a baby anymore. He's growing so much and learning new things all the time. He's starting to get bored of the baby toys and is LOVING his new birthday toys, so thank you! Even so, his attention span is not the greatest (surprise, surprise!), so I'm always looking for new ideas of tasks I can show him. I tried to teach him to transfer all of his blocks to another shoe box. He let me know that he'd rather throw each and every one behind him. A new game, however, is to throw the toys under the awfully dusty couch (mental note: mop underneath it ASAP). I used a tension rod to get them out, then he used a tension rod to push them back. He's learning without me even trying.
Another game I thought of was putting a bunch of straws in a plastic cup for him to take out one by one. He LOVED this one, and to my surprise, he even put several of them back, which I thought was pretty advanced. In this video, he's not as focused on that as he is in pushing buttons that light up and make sounds.
Kent also likes to steal pens. He carries them around like they are gold. Sometimes he drops them, like this time when it fell between the chair and the wall. How sad!

Matt came home from Gus' memorial service with Chris + Corrie's old bench and coat rack. It's awesome and it fits perfectly in our entry way. Kent immediately climbed all over it as if he knew it was just for him.
Since the seat is a bench too, he realized that lifting and letting go made a terrific bang. This was very entertaining until he slammed it on his finger. Ouch.
Let's stick to safer toys, next time.

ReplyDeleteHooray! I'm so glad it works for you and that he loves it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for my "Kent fix!" Looks as if he is thinking about golf with the rod and ball. Who knows but that will be his sport of choice! I just love all his babble, with or without a phone! Can't wait to tickle that tummy! (his) Kisses, Nana
