Bike Boogie!

Every Sunday this spring, Pat offers a bike boogie. Pat is the world's most enthusiastic cyclist. He might as well been born with two wheels rather than legs. He leads the sophomore bike trip every year.

In order to qualify for the yellow jersey (mandatory for the June bike trip), you have to complete at least one bike boogie. Well, this was finally my Sunday. It was perfect weather, warm but not too hot, and zero rain. The ride was 12-13 miles to an apple orchard farm store with fresh apple donuts and cider (among other super delicious treats), and the same number of miles back.

Matt stayed home, but I'm hoping he'll come with me again. His reasoning? 'I'll drive out and pick you up when you can't pedal anymore'. I'm glad I have his vote of confidence.

The ride there was great. I was energetic and pacing well. There were minor hills but then you could coast down and relax. The views were awesome. As were the donuts. I was starving by the time we got there (about 1h 20m).

The way back was not so easy. My legs were pretty tired (maybe we should have stopped longer??), we rode into a strong headwind the whole time, and yep, that's it. It was hard to keep pedaling. We took many more breaks on the way there, but I needed them especially on the way back.

I was so happy when we were back on campus. FINALLY!! It felt like forever with that awful wind. But I made it! I stretched and foam rolled and iced and stretched some more. Sure, there was some knee pain later that night, but nothing that a little anti-inflammatory couldn't take care of.

Here I am with my proud yellow jersey! Also, I'm wearing my super cool Columbia skort that I plan on wearing all summer as we travel.

For the bike trip, I think I've decided to bike every other day, or only mornings. I'm 30 and I've got nothing to prove. Plus, I need to save my knees and legs for our trip to France and Italy!!
