We had a great time with Chris and Corrie and their kids! We were so happy that they could take advantage of the holiday weekend, and even happier that the weather was warm and beautiful. Many of you remember the torrential rains and windy, cold storm that brought down our pine tree and forced us to stay inside our cramped house. This time the weather was perfect and we enjoyed playing outside and going for a walk. Corrie informed us that a few miles away from arriving, Elizabeth predicted: "it's going to start to rain!".
The logistical side of fitting 7 people in a tiny house with two bedrooms, one bathroom and a small 4 person dining table worked out afterall. In fact, Elizabeth and Andrew were so excited about their airmattress. Maybe the size of it (or the bounciness factor) impressed them? Our coffee table turned into a kids' table, which was the perfect size for the two mini chairs they brought. It's a good thing everybody knows how to go with the flow.
I'd like to add that I've started adopting my mom's napkin ring idea. We use the white cloth napkins from our wedding center pieces, but the problem was differentiating them. In comes my mom's creativity: napkin rings! So, off to Bed Bath I go and what do I find but the EXACT concept I was looking for: several different styled napkin rings that had one common feature, so that they would match, but be unique. It was just my luck that they had 8 (and only 8) red themed ones, each for one dollar! This was no coincidence. I thanked God right then and there and went home super duper happy. See? God cares about the little things too!

Creativity comes from my being a "cheapo," wanting to use the same napkins over and over without washing!! Glad your/my solution worked and glad you guys had such a great visit!! Love you, MOm
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love this napkin idea. So here are my questions - do you bleach them every washing? How often do you wash them?
ReplyDeleteBTW - I love how Elizabeth put her "real" napkin on her lap. She must have been watching you. :o)
One more thing - we had an AWESOME time!
Chris loved that Matthew would pick up his work. It allowed Chris to pick up your laptop and surf the web.
Elizabeth loved the extra attention. She loved playing the opposites game once we taught her how to do it. And there were so many people to play with. Perfect!!!
Andrew loved the air mattress. You're right - bouncing and rolling off the bed onto the air mattress was a highlight for him.
Emily loved the attention too. More cuddles and hugs to go around. She loved not being put in the bouncy seat all the time. In fact, she now demands to be held more.
I loved your food. Awesome! Your muffins were amazing. Your "princess pancakes" were really good. Of course you are the best stir fry maker in the world. And the pizza trying was really fun. I hope I can duplicate the old world style.
Thanks for a great weekend. Hopefully we'll be able to do it again sometime in the next year.
