I'm not much one for taking risks. I prefer to avoid stressful situations and sit on the sidelines, but, I've learned that that's not always the best decision in life. Nor is sitting all that much fun.
My school is taking a group of 40 students to the Dominican Republic for a non-religious outreach service trip. The group has doubled from last spring, which shows how meaningful it was to the teens. They taught English to the orphans and participated in various construction projects in the afternoons.
I'll be going as a chaperone!
The excitement is growing on me, but there's so much on my plate this trimester and with each super charged week that it still seems unreal. It's been close to 10 years since I've been on any kind of service project! Matt is happy for me, and he'd like to go. Maybe someday we can serve together on the same trip. Meanwhile, his enthusiasm is outshining mine. Last night as I was going to sleep, he took out his giant Spanish dictionary and opened to the first page of As and started reading.
It's going to be a long 5 months...
