I have four classes:
-1 section of French AP (12 students)
-2 sections of French 3 (10 + 6 students)
-1 section of French 2 (11 students)
*for F2 I will be coordinating lessons/assessments/grading with colleague Sally.
I had my students for just 30 minutes, just enough time for me to explain procedures, expectations and rules, and to encourage them to demonstrate courage and do their best. I was so sick of repeating myself, I felt pretty deflated by the end, just as my students looked. One class (F2) was particularly downcast and seemingly unmotivated. It didn't help that that's where some of my "problem boys" are, according to Sally who offered that information without me asking. I don't want to treat them as such, because I believe they would in fact live up to that expectation, but I couldn't help but notice they looked the part! Aren't I lucky that tomorrow is their long block of 80 minutes! I'm going to have to really vary it up--for their sakes and mine!
Otherwise, a lot of my students are really excited for French. The AP class is going to be great, but very busy on me since 12 is a big number. Many of them have exceptional French skills because of French family connection or time spent in the country. The French 3 classes are all girls except for 2 lucky boys (1 in each section), and they're all sweet. Here's to a good year, and an even better husband!
I came home after 5pm to a super clean & organized house, clean laundry, and home-made pizza! What an awesome husband. Let's hope I can get a foot and back rub out of this day too, huh?
