Bug wars.

There is this beetle that is very common down here. I'm not sure what they're called, but I have a few names for them of my own. As far as I know, they are the harmless, non-biting types, but that doesn't make insects inside a home any better. Especially the bedroom, and the kitchen, and even the bathroom since you can't run away from them quickly, and the livingroom is bad too.

Today, it was 90 degrees with high humidity. I worked all day in the AC thank goodness, but each time I went outside, the air hit me in the face and it kinda hurt. There was zero air movement, even biking home. As usual, it was hotter in the house, so the only way to get the cooler air in, especially in the evening, was to keep everything open. Hence the bug wars.

Even though I've knighted my husband to be my official protector, I have had my share of squeemish and shaky but sudden destruction of the intruders. Just now, as I was minding my own business, a beetle who had been bouncing off and on the walls like some drunken party animal, flew right at me!! I dove to my right, off the couch, and started searching frantically for the little devil. It was nowhere and the room fell eerily silent. So I figured he'd show up sooner or later. A few moments later, I enter the bedroom and pick up laundry when suddenly I realize the beetle is on my left shoulder!! With cat-like swift motion, I beat my shoulder quickly and repeatedly with my right hand, enough to leave a red mark and the little sucker dead on the floor.

I still have goosebumps.

  1. Well, I guess goosebumps are better than beetlebumps!!! And "cat swift motion?" I like that. Although our cat would go a bit further and eat its kill !! Maybe Matt should get you some beetle spray for your birthday!! Love you, Mom

  2. LOL! We have bug wars here too. Ladybugs to be exact. Elizabeth is so used to them that she'll pick them up and throw them in the toilet. She's convinced that the toilet is their home. We are also having ant problems. Stupid things!

  3. BTW, Elizabeth is still asking if we can come visit you again. I think she had a really great time.
