It didn't get better in high school: I cared too much about my looks. Thankfully, the pink, green and blue eye shadows were left behind. Neutrals were my new best friend. In college, all of that effort pretty much fell apart. Even more so when I started working full time. Some days, I'd be in class and think: did I wash my face?? It was bad that first year.
Then I got married and tried a little harder, but frankly, I'm just too lazy (un-creative?) in the morning to be staring in the mirror and creating a work of art on my face and hair. When I think that someone looks good, it's usually because she accessorizes: rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelet, a cute purse. I think: "hey, I should wear some of that too!" But the next day, I shower, get dressed and I call it good, totally forgetting about all the extras.
Oddly, my sister is the exact opposite of me now: she's got tons of cute accessories and she makes it a point to WEAR them too! Gosh darn it.
So here I am with a new dilemma: hair washing. I've been inspired to do a hair experiment because I feel like I "need" to wash my hair every day. I know in my head that that's silly, but since I have thin, shiny, straight and even naturally oily hair, it occurred to me that maybe I'm aggravating the oiliness. This is not about being lazy (showers really don't take me that long), and it's not about saving money (my shampoos are not expensive and I don't buy any other hair products). It's purely for the sake of healthier hair with less.
My inspiration has been several fold: my mom, this blog, and my sister who swears by dry shampoo. I thought I'd start my own experiment. The last time I showered was Saturday night. It's Tuesday (only!!) night and I have bathed, but my hair has not touched water. In fact, my hair is so nasty that I don't think water can actually touch it since oil repels water. This morning, I tried the dry shampoo. You have to spray it in your hair, then massage it into the roots, and fluff out. Ok, so I did this and (caution: gross alert) I swear I could have greased a 9x13 lasagna pan with my fingers afterwards!!
Here's me first thing in the morning, excited to use the new product.
Here's me, later, frustrated that my hair doesn't move.
Here's me, even later, having no choice but to put it up. It hasn't moved. Oil is like glue, guys.
I'm training my scalp to produce less oil. This is not a contest for how long I cannot wash my hair, otherwise Matt would win.
This was my original plan:
Sunday: Day 1
Monday: Day 2
Tuesday: Day 3
Tuesday: Day 3
Wednesday: Day 4
Thursday: shampoo in AM
Friday: Day 1
Thursday: shampoo in AM
Friday: Day 1
Saturday: Day 2 (also, 6 year anniversary!)
Sunday: Day 3 (also, travel day to CA, so nasty hair anyway)
Sunday: Day 3 (also, travel day to CA, so nasty hair anyway)
Buuuut, I'm starting to think I should shampoo on Day 3 instead... Matt says: if you're going to do this, you gotta do it!!

You crack me up!! Why didn't I stop you from eye shadow experiments? Live and learn, Baby, live and learn! Summer is a great time to re-train your hair. Putting it in a pony tail when greasy just has people assuming you just got out of the pool! It took me awhile to go from washing everyday to every 3-4 days, but your Dad kept talking science so I hung in there!! You can do this!!!! And good thing you're not in competition with Matt....hahaha
