Most of the time, I hardly know what day it is. Sure, life has slowed down since my last post, but I'm constantly thinking ahead, planning ahead or catching up on work. Weeks go by so quickly over here, especially when classes only meet 4 days of the 6: I'm always penciling in the next assessments and projects.
Sometimes, part of me wants to scream "I DESERVE MY FREE TIME!!" And when it rolls around, I'm usually alone (and too tired). My schedule conflicts with Matt's and my girlfriends'. Murphy's law. So the other part of me just goes back to work, getting caught up on everything. It's too easy to do with a hubby who works through the day and evening. I don't mind it (except the grading: I HATE the grading), especially if we're working side by side and taking breaks together. Plus, you know me: I hate "leftover" work. Priority work gets done first, and the rest gets shelved for later. Since I hate procrastinating, I usually pick up the "later" work and finish it.
Here's a snapshot of what we've been doing to break up our evenings:
-dinner!
-watching TV online, and often the French news, movies we watch in parts (15-20 mins at a time)
-taking walks
-playing pool
-going to see college football and soccer games
-having a spontaneous meal with friends
-going to the grocery store to buy products we've never tried before, like soy milk, Greek yogurt, ezekiel bread, fancy juices, etc
-and of course I've been knitting like crazy. I have 1.5 scarves completed so far and I have 2 whole ones left to do before Christmas!
Last Saturday, I didn't have to teach so we went up to see Matt's family and meet our new nephew. He is so darling! It was a blast and I felt a million miles away from work. The drive up was gorgeous, with the fall colors becoming brighter and brighter as we drove further north. What a treat for such a vacation.
My next break from teaching was today, but it was a work day for us to write mid-term comments on all of our students' progress. They are done! Long weekend is at the end of this month (over weekdays), but Matt still has to teach so we'll stay home. Maybe I'll get a ton of knitting done?
