Freedom!

Fright Fest at Six Flags was super fun. There were TONS of people there: kids, families, students and more teens. OMG. The lines were impossibly long for rides and haunted houses.

Matt and I mostly walked around, people watched, and played the games. We competed in a horse race where you had to throw the balls into different numbered holes to make your horse run faster. I had a great start, but Matt caught up with me. Bummer. He won a Scooby Doo stuffed animal and gave it to me anyway.

All the teenage girls were jealous of me.

Otherwise, Matt went to a silent movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" that was playing the university chapel while the organist played the music to the film. It was a really late event (9 to 11) and I wasn't going to go because it was Friday night and I had an 8am class the next day, just like any weekday.  But, my once young and crazy self took over my decision making, and I marched back from the parking lot to the chapel, miraculously found Matt in the super dark, and enjoyed the show. It was long, especially the last 30 minutes or so, but it was worth it. What convinced me what that A) even though I have a hard time catching up on sleep once I sacrifice it too much, sleep isn't memorable, and B) events like these are all over the place in a town like ours: we may not always live here, so why not participate when we can? We love college towns!

This week our faculty meeting on Monday kept me at school for 13 hours, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings we stayed in, but a friend from out of town stayed with us. Thursday was my school's play "Metamorphesis". Friday was an open house gathering. Saturday was a long-overdue get together with friends. After church today, we went to a French "grocery store" (basically, an overpriced store full of imported goods and baked goodies), grabbed bread + cheese and one treat each. Then we headed out to the battlefield for a picnic and a walk. It was gorgeous today: 60s, blue sky, full sun, and Fall's peak season. Perfection. Afterwards, I baked an apple spice cake and made chai tea for women's group (at our place). Dishes are done and I'm pooped. It's nearly bedtime, and I'm really happy because...

NO SCHOOL UNTIL WEDNESDAY!!!

It's the beginning of my long weekend, and I'm loving it.

Aside from the embarrassing amount of laundry taking over our bedroom, my work can wait a day or two (yes, I have two finals to create), my knitting has been progressing, and I'm thoroughly enjoying the thought of waking up and going NOWHERE. It's tough to wake up and be out the door at 7am six days a week, then wake up on Sunday to head to church. I enjoy driving, but not that much.

WHOO HOOO!!!
