Back to school!

Today was the first day of school. Not regular school, but rather an introduction to all classes where teachers spew as much information about policies and procedures, and distribute a pound of paper with more requirements, tasks and assignments as they possibly can in 30 minutes. My AC was set for 68 degrees, but I sweat through my coton dress anyway. At least it was black.

I have a great AP class. The student who spent a year in France after completing level two at our school is PHENOMENAL. Her spoken French is as good as mine. She took the AP test in May and scored a 5. Yes, she's taking it again, but since it's a different course, it will still be challenging for her. She wants to pursue medecine. I hope she persues medecine in a francophone country because she's fluent!

My French 2 students are all new to me. Two of my advisees are in there, so that's nice. I'm pairing them up so that they can get to know each other easily. It's always tough to get this level started because they're still so elementary.

My French 3 classes (I have two sections) have already annoyed me to where I was biting my lip. Many of them were my French 2 students from last year and I think they think they can get away with murder. Not unless I murder crack the whip. I dislike the intermediate level so much. There are really really bright kids who are going to jump right into AP next fall, and then there are others who decided to continue French because, because... who knows why!! Level 3 is not mandatory, and I'd be lying if I said that I hope a couple will drop in two weeks time...

The gender meeting about modesty went really well. The female student body went NUTS over our outfits. My face was red the whole time. My students were shaking their finger NO at me. Hilarious.

My advisor meeting went well. Everyone was pretty quiet today. It had been a long day for us all. It's going to be hard to draw them out. I brought them ice cream in a cooler (it was SO hot today), which they liked. Two are day students, two are boarders. I liked Cori's comment about having them over for dinner; however, I found out that it's not advised since I don't have my CDL yet. I still can drive them to my house, but I would be liable if anything happened to them. That makes me nervous, so I'm wondering if I could bring dinner to them and we can meet somewhere comfortable?? Not the same, but I have to think about whether or not I should take that risk.

I am thankful that God gave me such great sleep last night. For the last 4 or 5 days it was awful, especially with Matt gone at his friend's wedding. I felt unsafe and kept hearing "noises". I'm so tired from today that I don't think I'll have any trouble sleeping.

God knows I love wild animals, and at 6:30 this morning, two great big bucks came walking behind our house. It was so cool. Look for yourselves:

  3. For those French 3 students, don't worry about them. Just give them what for! You don't HAVE to like them. :o)

    Enjoy the rest.

BTW, one of my best college memories is my adviser invited me and another girl to spend the night at her house. It was neat to see how she lived outside of college. We did have to get ourselves there, though....
