On Monday, I woke up at 5am and couldn't really fall back to sleep. Orientation started at 8am and ended at 8:30pm. I think I was dead asleep an hour later.
Ever since then, it's been go-go-go. It's good practice for the first month of school, but it's quite tiring. For one, I haven't seen much of Matthew or eaten much with him. The fridge is quickly emptying itself, the laundry is ever-growing, and the chores have been put on hold. I haven't thought twice about my hobbies, and I've spent minimal waking hours in our home.
I thought it was Friday yesterday.
Thank the Lord that next week is still a "summer" week. At least I'll have time to catch up on chores, my husband, my hobbies and write my syllabi and lesson plans for week one. Whew.
Today was a little slower, as will tomorrow be. There's plenty to plan for the first month and first week and first day, but I'm going to take a break tonight. Plus, I'm going to Bible study. Today was also the mandatory fitness center orientation with a shorter & younger version of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Seriously, I don't think he can sit "indian-style". I asked him specifically how to strengthen my lower back and he showed me on two machines. He'll put a whole work out & strengthening plan together for us if we want! The question becomes: when in my day can I do this without my students in the gym (before 10am and after 6pm) and not be entirely sweaty?
If I could summarize my school into one sentence, it would be this: this school and everything about it (community, teachers, students, academics, benefits--housing, meals, gym, golf, child care) is AWESOME. Matt is rethinking the year in Paris just because he doesn't want me to lose this.
Even though my school looks too good to be true, I am still very, very busy with my three preps and four classes and 6 days of school. I'm not looking forward to drowning.
