These days

Everyone LOVES a pregnant lady. It's so exciting. There's a countdown. The stories start. The comparisons start. There's so much anticipation. There's so much attention. After this baby is born, all of that is going to stop, like immediately. My belly is huge and it's only going to get bigger. How fun! Many of my shirts are stretching at the seams and if it's a button down--wear goggles!

The comments have changed to: Comin' down to the last weeks, huh? It's almost time! Are you ready? It could be anytime now! You know, mine was early... Oh, the "early stories"... My sister and my sisters-in-law all went early. But this kind of thing isn't genetic, so who cares, right?? I've been functioning on "just in case" scenarios for everything in my classes and in my dorm. For the past month or so, I've been training two colleagues to take over my classes in the winter term, but then I realized that if I give birth early, in this term, they need to know what to do. My department chair is beside himself worried that I'll go early. He's asked for lesson plans and assessments and instructions. I told him if he kept it up, he's going to make me go into labor with all of this stress! But it's good. I need to be prepared. My folders are ready, but I'm crossing my fingers that this little boy will stay put until the 15th at least. Plus, he's gotta wait til Grandma and Grandpa arrive next Wednesday!

This morning, I woke up at 4:45 (for my 3rd trip to the bathroom, which is now the norm!) and I couldn't go back to sleep. I was awake and felt rested. Then the thoughts came: a running list of everything to do before my parents and this baby came: a lot of cleaning, a lot of laundry, a lot of reorganizing. Though I tried, I wasn't going to fall back asleep. I finally got up at 6 and enjoyed hot tea, knowing I could nap later (and boy did I!). Oh how I love naps now. I'm out cold every time. It's lovely. Matt is a great nap enforcer. He can tell when I'm about to lose it from being overtired--he's going to be a great Dad!

It's the end of the day, and I did cross off a few things from my mental list:
--Take down Halloween decorations in the dorm
--Reorganize office
--Reorganize the hallway closet
--Make more room in the kitchen
--Get bed from friend
--Set up guest room
--Sort baby's laundry
--Do as many loads as it takes
--Organize baby's clothes by size, then by type
--Vacuum!!! (so easy to procrastinate but it's really getting gross)
--Pack hospital bag (+ whatever baby needs, like car seat)
--Stock up pantry
--Um, finish nursery?
**I know I'm forgetting things, but they'll come to me in the middle of the night this week, don't worry.

Here are some pictures! We have a guest room! Come on over!!

This kid is going to need a whole other room for his wardrobe. But don't you love the navy blue sheets in the pile? They are so awesome!!

  1. Sounds like we are doing the same thing in the too-early-mornings but for different reasons! The guest room looks wonderful and we can't wait to be there! PLEASE little Sandefer, wait 'til we get there! Are all those clothes in the laundry his? Oh wow! Hang in there and don't feel guilty ever to take it as easy as you can! Big Gentle Hugs, Mom

  2. Yes, little Sandefer. Please wait until at least Thursday for your Exit! You are our Big Motivation in getting everything shut down here to see/hold you from the very beginning! Excited beyond words, Grandpa-Grandma

  3. Awww, so exciting! And yes it's totally not fair that once the baby is born NOBODY CARES ABOUT YOU ANYMORE! No more "how are you feeling?" or "sit down let me get that for you". It's all about the baby. Baby this, baby that. But that's probably a good thing - it's nice to have something cute to hold and to look at since you'll probably look all gross for a while. Just sayin'. :)
