Me and Matt time:
As the weeks are so fast to go by, I'm struck at how little time me and Matt have together, just the two of us. I wish we could throw our computers and responsibilities out the window and just focus all of our energy and time on each other. The peace and quiet (aside from the dorm) is wonderful, as is the uninterrupted conversation and sleep (aside from doorbells ringing, texts and alarms going off in the middle of the night, but then what would I blog about?). So we've made it a point to go out on more dates together, especially out to eat.
Most recently, we've had dinner at an Afghani restaurant--so good!! Then last weekend, Indian, a classic favorite. Matt thought my dish was impossibly spicy. I was fine with it. Later, baby kicked me again and again in a really painful place. I hope he has forgiven me. Another night, we went to the grocery store (just like in college!) and got ingredients to make our own meatballs and spaghetti. That was fantastic. We went apple picking one beautiful Sunday then we came home to make apple cobbler and apple sauce. YUM! Have you noticed a food trend yet??
School:
School is going fine for me. It blows my mind that I just have to finish this week out, then teach ONE more chapter, then it's BABY TIME!!! A colleague is taking over my French 3 classes and we hired a part time woman to do my AP class. It's been time consuming preparing them both for what to do, but it needs to be done.
Matt's classes are going well. He especially likes precepting the film classes, though next week he collects close to 40 four page essays. Yikes. His beloved computer finally died. He had it for 8 years and it was a good 8 years, but the left speaker wouldn't work, the screen would be only half visible sometimes, the computer had to plugged in 24/7 and the DVD player was busted. Also, it was slower than the definition of slow. He just got a new one! Yay for speed and working functions :)
Pregnancy:
Ever since I started showing, people have told me how small I am. "You're how many months? Oh my gosh, I was like twice your size at that stage!" or "Are you sure you're only 7 months?" etc. These are my favorite compliments. This week, however, I've gotten comments like "Wow, you've really popped out!" or "You're looking ready!" These are less fun, and I've shooed them off blaming my outfit, but this week I've realized that many of my shirts are too short. Who did the laundry? Luckily, my doctor has been happy with my progress and my weight has plateaued this month, oddly enough. 6 more weeks means 6 more centimeters of growth!
Another, not-so-fun new aspect of the pregnant life is waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to fall back asleep. It's happened twice already. Once, I was up for 2 hours for no reason. Yesterday, I woke up (what seemed like 2:30am) and about an hour later, my alarm went off. I was SO tired, breathing deeply, totally comfortable, baby still, everything perfect, but unable to drift to lalaland. Weird. So that afternoon, I took a nap and left a note asking Matt to wake me up at a certain time. Unfortunately, I didn't check his schedule so I thought he'd be home earlier. I ended up sleeping for 3 hours! Whups.
Nursery:
When free time shows its face, I work on small nursery projects. Matt has been super helpful with the manly stuff: drilling holes in the walls, mounting a ceiling light, moving furniture to my liking, etc. It's coming along, but it's not 100% done yet. I'll post a big reveal when the walls are done. Stay tuned!

Can't wait to see the nursery! And all of your eating out sounds delicious! Glad you're almost done with the school part :). Sorry about your pregnancy sleep issues! For me, it was waking several times to pee. Fun times. And the comments about how big you are will just get worse. Trust me. The worst is when a well-meaning stranger asks "When are you due?" AFTER you've had the baby.....
ReplyDeleteThose silly hormones are all mixed up....causing this wakefulness. At least, it gets you in training for those late-night feedings. I am so glad you are taking advantage of some extra time with hubby! Can hardly believe you only have 6 weeks to go! Can't wait to see you all big and ready, and very excited to see the new little grandson! XXOO Mom
