I can’t wait for this weekend.
With 1 week under my belt, the waters will be calmer and the ordinary will roll
in. Matt and I haven’t seen each other in so long, which is terribly weird
since we’re married. Between being on call for the dorm, and having to stay up
until 11:30 pm, and sleeping on the couch, I feel like we don’t even live
together! This Saturday after classes (or Sunday), I’ve demanded a whole date
afternoon/evening.
Last weekend was busy, then classes started on Monday. Classes are going fine, but I still feel rusty. I’ve got 2 big classes of French 3 (14 students in each), and 1 class of French AP (10 kids). In AP, there are two new students who went to French schools so their language skills are amazing!! But what happens with these kids is that they tend to be casual in their speaking skills and aren’t sure how to create more sophisticated language. In my French 3 class, I speak all in French (which is very different from their former teacher), and I’ve successfully scared many of them. Good. Rise to new standards.

As for
the dorm, the worst is behind me, I think. There were dorm meetings on Sunday,
Monday and Tuesday nights. I’m on duty Tuesdays and Wednesdays until Thanksgiving
break, but Tuesdays are our dorm bonding nights (which requires a lesson or dorm bonding activity and usually snacks). This week, we made Gak (or
slime) and then we finished going over rules (jeopardy game) while everyone played
with their science experiment. One girl raised her hand and said, “um, I have a
problem. This Gak won’t come off” as she points to her thigh which is COVERED
in Gak. Everybody stifled giggles, and I asked: “Why in the world did you put
it on your pants?”
“I didn’t
put it there--it fell! (she stands) And it’s totally stuck there” (she pulls at
it and nothing budges). Now
everyone is laughing hard and I order that a picture be taken immediately.
Not 20
minutes earlier, while everyone was mixing their ingredients in the ziplock
bag, I reminded the girls to make sure they washed their hands after playing
with it. One girl said:
“Jenna already ate some!”
“Jenna already ate some!”
“WHAT?!?!?!”
Jenna’s
eyes go wide. “You mean, it’s not edible?”
This job
should have come with a warning sign.
Luckily,
after a long Tuesday and Wednesday, my Thursdays are a breeze with one 1 class
in the afternoon. I have all morning to sleep in and decompress and nurse my
headache.

Wow! Sounds crazy! Thankfully, it'll all calm down soon. And hurray for Thursdays!! Have fun on your weekend with "what's his name." Love you, Mom
