Yesterday I went to a rugby match in the Stade de France. I had previously thought that American football had evolved haphazardly; now I realize that its creators simply took a boring game and made it interesting. Perhaps it was because I came to the game without knowing any of the rules. Or maybe the frigid temperatures, drizzle and the 40 minute subway ride dampened my mood. Expecting to feel like this guy,
at halftime, I felt more like this:
The most annoying part of the game is that there were never any big plays. No one ever broke a tackle. No one made a big run. They would make several lateral passes and then pile up:
Sorry Europe. I think your game is dumb.

Ditto. But then I think American football is dumb too! Sorry! Jan
ReplyDeleteSorry, Matt. Normally rugby can be fun and action-filled. Bad day for you! Randy
